A boudoir is a small room in a home, laid out between the dining room and the bedroom. The Marquis de Sade (1740–1814), a literary author, helped make this little room, devoted to the intimacy of women’s conversations, widely known. Since the success of his work La Philosophie dans le Boudoir, this small salon has acquired a scandalous reputation, linked to all the conversations and amorous encounters that take place there. It is also a crisp biscuit, often sprinkled with granulated sugar.
