The town and the gay areas

"Freedom was earnt by our forefathers, posterity must preserve it." is the promising motto of this nordic metropolis situated on the banks of the river Elbe.
It is scarcely surprising then, that its gay community is amongst the most colourful in Europe.

The town of Hamburg has the good atmosphere of a large metropolis and a relaxed side, thanks to the presence of water and nature at its heart. This is the place for mainstream and alternative lifestyles and cultures, for the famous musicals played inside its walls and the special charm of a large international port...

Hamburg's gay area is undoubtedly Saint Georg, in the town centre between the Hauptbahnhof (central station) and the river Alster. When it comes to nightlife, the town's very famous "red light district" is also, and always, a must: today the Reeperbahn is a place of very diverse cultures and a real cult.
