Agde and Cap d'Agde Overview

 

Built by the Greeks on a volcanic site, Agde is the daughter of water. First a Greek city, then a medieval fortress and a small, rich, renaissance town, Agde was one of the Mediterranean's largest commercial ports up until the 18th century. The historical centre is rich with exceptional and ancient heritage, a labyrinth of tiny streets lined with houses  and monuments made of black volcanic stone, unique in the Languedoc

 Cap d'Agde is a capital destination for those looking for a Mediterranean seaside resort.
With its volcanic origins, it has the true spirit of the South, being both modern and drenched in history, but always with a very natural feel. Le Cap d'Agde consists of several districts. Each one of them has its own style and atmosphere, between pine trees, oleander bushes and sandy beaches.

Although the South of France makes for a wonderful vacation destination, Cap d’Agde is even better. Nestled along the Mediterranean sea, within proximity of such ancient French cities as Montpellier, Nîmes, Aigues Mortes and Béziers, Cap d’Agde is a magnificent area known for its nudist camp and gay beaches, some of Europe’s largest.

To the east, discover the barrier beaches sandwiched between the sea and lakes as far as the Camargue and also Sete and Montpellier along the way.

From Montpellier, on the Grand M roundabout, head towards Sète along the N 112( name of the road). After Sète follow the road signs that mention Cap d'Agde and the "Village Naturiste". The beach is on the "Héliopolis" grounds.Walking distance is about 1km heading west.
