Narbonne Overview

The city of Narbonne boasts not only the largest city territory of the department but also the most diverse. Centred on the lower Aude valley, the city extends along its East-West axis from the Mediterranean Sea to the coastal buttresses of the Corbières Maritime Mountains, encompassing the La Clape limestone range. From North to South, it stretches from the Aude's current course to the edges of Sainte-Lucie Island, including more than half of the Bages-Sigean lakes.

Located on the coast of one of the most popular tourist regions, Narbonne enjoys the many advantages of a seaside resort with a 5-kilometer (3-mile) beach and a marina. At the same time, it prides itself on an urban centre resonating with history (cultural sites, museums, Canal de la Robine…). These attractions all nestle in an extraordinary environmental setting (La Clape limestone range, vineyards, lakes…) at the heart of France's 51st Regional Natural Park.

Although the South of France makes for a wonderful vacation destination, Cap d’Agde is even better. Nestled along the Mediterranean sea, within proximity of such ancient French cities as Montpellier, Nîmes, Aigues Mortes and Béziers, Cap d’Agde is a magnificent area known for its nudist camp and gay beaches, some of Europe’s largest.

To the east, discover the barrier beaches sandwiched between the sea and lakes as far as the Camargue and also Sete and Montpellier along the way.

To the north, the countryside with its picturesque villages, numerous historic sites and beautiful scenery extends a warm welcome.

To the west, follow the Canal du Midi, which is classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and visit the proud cities of Beziers, Narbonne and Carcassonne...
