Alain and Byrne welcome you to La Millasserie, a  gay-owned  Bed and Breakfast in the heart of the ancient province of the Perigord. With five star ratings on Trip Advisor  and Gay Provence, La Millasserie offers four individual maisonettes,  each room accommodating one or two adults.

     Three Night Minimum Stay

Each spacious room i(16 x 24 feet) has a private ensuite bath, and is furnished in the style of the region with antiques and king-sized beds.  Each room has a private entrance, private terrace, and easy access to the pool.

We welcome well-behaved pets. We are an adults only B &B.

La Millasserie is at the heart of the Perigord, the modern Department of the Dordogne,  known as the land of truffles, wine, grande cuisine, and chateaux. The Perigord offers perhaps the greatest number of historic sites in France:  prehistoric caves,  Roman ruins, castles, ancient churches,  medieval  and Renaissance villages and towns, as well as  some of the most beautiful scenery in France.Enjoy  great restaurants,  concerts, antiques, wine tasting, swimming, canoeing, cycling, hiking, and after a day of  adventure relax by our pool.

La MIllasserie is  twenty minutes from the historic city of Bergerac, thirty-five minutes  from the two  cradles of pre-history, Les Eyzies and the Lascaux Caves, and forty-five minutes from the restored Renaissance city of Sarlat. We are  an hour’s drive to St. Emilion in the  Bordeaux wine country and two hours to  Bordeaux, one of the most beautiful cities in France.

Alain & Byrne

Your Hosts

Alain, from Bordeaux, met Byrne in the USA. He opened Alain Pioton Antiques in 1982 in the, at that time, little known town of Hudson, New York. His was the first antiques shop in Hudson and by the time he closed it in 2008 there were 70 shops and Hudson had become gentrified and known not only for antiques, but for art galleries, music venues, and fine dining..

Byrne, Professor of English at the City University of New York, taught 18th Century English and 19th century American Literature, and later, courses in Gay Studies. His books in that field include  Masculine Landscapes: Walt Whitman and the Homoerotic Text, followed in 1994 by A Road To Stonewall. a study of English and American Gay literature,  In 2001 The Columbia Anthology of Gay Literature was published by Columbia University Press, followed a year later by Homophobia: A History (Holt / Picador). He is the author of several novels including Achilles: A Gay Love Story, and American Revolution, a detective fiction about the first gay US President.

Our Story

We have been coming to France since we met. In 1989 we acquired a vacation house in the Perigord,  also using it as a base from which to source antiques for Alain’s gallery. In 1999 we moved from that house to La Millasserie, continuing to vacation here as well as source antiques. In addition to the antiques gallery, we had a B&B in the US, and when we decided to live permanently in France, a B&B was the solution to the question of what to do in a new country.

We added a four-room B&B addition in the style of the 18th century house and came permanently to La Millasserie in 2008, opening the B&B that summer. Since then we have been fortunate to  become a popular destination for guests from The US, the UK, Europe, and beyond. We welcome you to La Millasserie.

The guest rooms, built in the garden in a sympathetic period style are spacious, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Our hosts Aialn and Byrne are charming and helpful in every way. « This is one of the best Bed and Breakfast that I have ever stayed. My partner and I stayed here the first time in end of May. The hosts were excellent and made our stay memorable. The cottage is very spacious and clean. The breakfast is fresh and high quality. The local restaurants are extremely high standard comparable to 5-star restaurants in New York City, Paris and London. We are surprised and glad that they exist in this part of France because we paid a fraction of price for high quality food made by very talented chefs. I highly recommend this place and will definitely come back. Wine and the fresh produces are the best in the world. »

« What an incredible experience! Our hosts, Byrne and Alain, were delightful. They could not have been more accommodating. There suggestions for places to visit and for dining were excellent, some of the best dining I've experienced. The cottages were beautifully furnished with antiques and really comfortable beds, and they are large, especially if compared to hotel rooms in Paris. The breakfasts were so good and a great way to start your daily adventures. Can't wait to return! »

« We visited La Millasserie again, after having spent four nights there in August last year. Byrne and Alain are wonderful hosts and this time around it was really like visiting friends who know how to make their guests feel welcome. The BB is also straight friendly, but we didn't mind that at all. Since there are only 4 rooms there, you get to meet interesting people. The rooms are spacious, the sleep is great, the Dordogne is beautiful, the nearby restaurants are excellent. If you are tired of wild parties and city life and need a relaxing break with your partner, we highly recommend this BB. Oh, yes, I mustn't forget the wine... there are some excellent local wines, just ask the hosts for advice. »

« In the fall of 2010 we rented two rooms in this beautiful Bed and Breakfast. This is truly a Four-Star hotel, complete with daily maid service. The linens, towels and King Size beds are all superb. We usually do not stay at Bed and Breakfast’s however these accommodations are more like a private cottage. Indeed, each unit has its own completely private patio, huge state of the art rain shower; the rooms are very large and furnished with usable antique furniture. La Millasserie has a delightfully peaceful tranquility and is still just minutes away from local villages. Byrne and Alain are the perfect hosts, at breakfast we would discuss our itinerary and they would often suggest other sites along the route, e.g. “try such and such chateau – it is fully furnished”. Personal recommendations truly are the type of information you can never get out of a guide book. We have been to this area several times and still have not scratched the surface of this deeply historic / architecturally magnificent region. Every few miles there is another castle, chateau, medieval site or Grand Masion. We are not in the habit of returning to the same hotel, but we would revisit Le Domaine de La Millasserie in a heartbeat. Highly Recommended ! »

« This is a perfect place to go if you live in a city. It's quiet, the bed is huge, the rooms are nicely decorated, the hosts are very attentive and will give you tips about restaurants and local wines, the pool is decent size, and the breakfast is nice... Just go there, you won't regret it. We're coming back, definitely »

Vraiment super ! »
