Jalisco Overview

Jalisco is one of the 31 states of the United Mexican States (Mexico). Jalisco has an area of about 79,085 km² or 30,535 square miles (some municipalities are currently being disputed with neighboring states).

Jalisco is surrounded by the neighboring states of San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Colima, Michoacan, and Guanajuato. It's located in the western/central part of Mexico. Visiting Jalisco will expose you to all the seasons, from the coldest winter to the hottest tropical summer temperatures. You'll also find a colorful element in the people and atmosphere that is said to be unique to the area.

The state capital of Jalisco is Guadalajara. Nearby tourist destinations also include the city of Tequila, Puerto Vallarta, Lagos de Moreno, and San Juan de los Lagos. Jalisco is also known for being the origin of Mariachi music, the Mexican jumping bean, and tequila! A trip to Mexico just isn't complete without stopping in Jalisco.
