| The United Kingdom, or UK, is made up of the countries of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Its full name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.Cosmopolitan cities offer myriad performing arts from jazz to contemporary dance, museums, galleries, historic monuments, architecture, and sporting arenas. The London Eye is the biggest observatory wheel in the world, right in the heart of the capital. Representing towns and cities in every region, there are more than 650 annual festivals of music, drama, art, opera, poetry and literature, the most famous being Edinburgh International Festival. Add the natural heritage of the country: mountains of Wales and Scotland; dramatic coastal cliffs; fine beaches; interior gorges and cave systems; the extraordinary sculpture of the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland; the forests and national parks. |
