Saint Remy is located at the crossroads of the routes of Provence. All major tourist spots are less than an hour's drive away : Avignon 30mn (gare TGV 20mn), Arles 30mn, Nimes 45mn, the Pont du Gard aqueduct 30mn, Baux de Provence 10mn, the Luberon 45mn, the Camargue 45mn, Aix-en-Provence 45mn, Marseille Airport 50mn.

Saint Remy is the best base for touring the region, and also the ideal place to stay : for its historic richness (Glanum, Saint Paul Mausoleum, the historic town center) and the beauty of its natural preserved. Craftspeople, quality boutiques, and a great choice of restaurants and cafes give the town its lively character. Its ideal size (neither too big, neither too small) lets you quickly feel you're a part of local life.

The region with its agricultural land and clement winters was already, in Antiquity, a veritable breadbasket. Medieval farmers conquered the hills of the Alpilles by creating terraces called "bancaous" where they planted olive, almond and apricot trees, resistant to drought, and at the feet of which they sowed grains. On the higher grounds, the windmills transformed the harvest into olive oils and flour.
